Where to Stay in Montenegro with Kids

Montenegro is an underrated destination for a family-friendly holiday with its stunning landscapes, historic sites, and welcoming atmosphere. Whilst most travellers will spend a day to Kotor from Croatia, the country of Montenegro has so much more to offer.

In this guide, I will reveal what I have found to be the most kids friendly hotels in Montenegro suitable for all tastes and budget.

Montenegro is a small country located on the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and Croatia. That’s right. Montenegro is surrounded by 5 different neighbouring countries.

Montenegro has beautiful beaches

The country boasts a breathtaking coastline along the Adriatic Sea, offering picturesque beaches and crystal-clear waters. Popular family-friendly beaches include Mogren Beach and Jaz Beach.

One of the highlights of visiting Montenegro is the exploration of charming old cities like Kotor and Budva, where you can wander through narrow cobblestone streets, visit medieval churches, and enjoy local cuisine in family-friendly restaurants.

For families seeking adventure, Montenegro offers outdoor activities like hiking in Durmitor National Park, rafting on the Tara River, and zip-lining in the mountains.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Montenegro for a family holiday is during the spring (April to June) and fall (September to October). During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the tourist crowds are smaller, making it ideal for a more relaxed family vacation.

A week to ten days is a good duration to explore the main attractions of Montenegro without feeling rushed. This allows your family to enjoy the coastal and inland experiences with of course the great facilities at your hotel.

How To Reach Montenegro

Montenegro is easily accessible from the UK. Direct flights to Tivat and Podgorica, Montenegro’s main airports, are available from various UK cities.

Alternatively, you can fly into nearby Dubrovnik in Croatia and then take a scenic drive or transfer to Montenegro, which is approximately a two-hour drive.

If you haven’t booked your flight ✈️ to Montenegro just yet, have a look at all these options available and compare different departure and return dates.

To explore Montenegro comfortably, consider renting a car. This provides flexibility and allows you to visit different regions at your own pace.

By choosing Montenegro for your family holiday, you can create lasting memories amidst stunning landscapes and cultural treasures.

So I believe it is time to deep dive into my list of the best kids friendly hotels in Montenegro. Are you ready? Go!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best area to stay in Montenegro?

The best area to stay in Montenegro depends on your preferences and the type of family holiday experience you are looking for. Montenegro offers diverse regions, each with its unique charm.

If you’re interested in history and want to stay in a charming medieval town, Kotor is an excellent choice. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with narrow winding streets, historic architecture, and a stunning bay view. There are various accommodation options, from boutique hotels to cosy guesthouses.

Budva is known for its vibrant nightlife, beautiful beaches, and a mix of historic and modern attractions. The Old Town features ancient walls, churches, and squares. Budva is a great choice if you want a lively atmosphere with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and entertainment options.

Tivat is ideal for those looking for a more relaxed coastal experience. It’s home to Porto Montenegro, a luxury yacht marina, and offers a quieter atmosphere compared to Budva. Tivat is a good base for exploring the Bay of Kotor and nearby attractions.

For a tranquil retreat with stunning views, consider staying in Perast. This small town is located on the Bay of Kotor and is known for its historic architecture, including palaces and churches. It provides a serene setting for a relaxing family vacation.

What is a good family friendly hotel in Montenegro?

At BabyBreaks, we try to find hotels that can cater families needs with large family rooms, great kids friendly facilities like playground, kids club or child pool and of course good feedback from past families visitors. We also suggest from time to time self-catering options if we think it could be a good alternative to hotels in the destination.

Is Montenegro good for kids?

Absolutely. As I mentioned before, Montenegro is full of surprises with enchanting old towns to explore but also magic coastline along the Adriatic sea. The destination is not yet as popular as Croatia but it will be. So now is the good time to take advantage of relatively mild prices on kids friendly hotels in Montenegro.

Is it cheap to stay in Montenegro?

Compared to Western European countries like France or Italy, Montenegro is much more affordable when it comes to hotel prices. If you decide to visit Montenegro with the family, have a look at shoulder seasons like Easter holiday or half term in May.

If you stay in luxury hotels in Budva or Kotor, you could expect to pay a high price for family rooms or private suites. Depending on the season, you could find great prices in large family rooms in 4-star hotels too. Try to avoid the month of August, especially in resorts alongside the beach.

CONCLUSION

There you have it! In this article, I have pinpointed the best kids friendly hotels and resorts you could stay in Montenegro for your next escape.

The country of Montenegro is definitely worth to check out for a long week of holiday or paired with another family stay in Croatia.

Enjoy your trip to Montenegro with the kids!
