As a region famous for its dramatic sea views and beautiful beaches, it’s no surprise the Algarve is also known for its fantastic seafood.
Try the traditional dish of fresh grilled sardines served with crusty bread in Portimão. Or head to Olhão’s famous fish market and seafood restaurants to taste clams, octopus and tuna. Wash it all down with one of Portugal’s excellent wines, which you can try and buy at one of the numerous vineyards in the area. It’s not all about fish though – most restaurants in Algarve serve modern European fare too such as steaks, pizza and pasta. And the kids will love the family favourite dish of Piri Piri chicken which originates from the town of Guia.
If you have a night away from the kids you could try one of the eight restaurants in Algarve with a Michelin star, for a date night to remember.
So let’s look at our recommended family friendly restaurants and cafes in Algarve:
1. Bovino Steakhouse, Quinta do Lago
This new stylish restaurant in upmarket Quinta do Lago has interiors as impressive as its food – it was decorated by one of Europe’s most acclaimed interior designers, and is loved by holidaymakers for its excellent steaks and award winning cocktail bar. Despite its chic appearance, Bovino is very
welcoming to families, offering a children’s play area to keep the little ones happy while you make
your way through the cocktail list!

2. Parrilla Natural Restaurant, Almancil
One of the Algarve’s most romantic restaurants, Parilla is set in the idyllic village of Almancil and its verdant garden is embellished with row upon row of twinkling fairy lights. The South American
influenced menu is great for meat lovers. For instance, their signature dish is grass-fed steak cooked in the traditional Uruguayan method over their ‘Parrilla’ (a grill heated by coal) which intensifies the flavours.
Finally, there’s a secure children’s play area plus weekly activities during the summer like face-
painting and outdoor movie screenings. No wonder why it is featured among the best family friendly restaurants in Algarve.
