Is Santorini good for family?

I have to be honest with you, there aren’t a lot of kids friendly hotels in Santorini. Let alone, hotels where you can find a kids club or all day activities for your little ones. However, I believe this island shouldn’t be reserved to couples and if you plan well in advance, you can explore this dream holiday destination with your family at your own pace outside the peak season.

If you plan a trip to Santorini, you have to be aware that the island infrastructure is not super family friendly. So be prepared to climb stairs up and down and make sure to bring a baby carrier if you have a baby or toddler with you on your next holiday in Santorini.

Also, don’t forget to bring good walking shoes on the top of the usual flip flops. Otherwise, the destination is so unique that you will forget about the little inconvenience not to use a pram on the island.

Which part of Santorini is best for families?

Santorini is a small island that stretches to about 20km/22ml from North to South. So every side of the island is worth visiting. Most of the luxurious hotels are located in Oia or Fira. If you want to be close to the beach with lots of space, you can stay in hotels in Kamari on the East coast.

When is the best time to visit Santorini with young children?

It is obvious that the months of July and August are very busy in Santorini. However if you have pre-school children, I would advise to stay in Santorini with family in June or at the end of September or October where the island is quieter but also less hot (around 25°C or 77°F).

Usually, tourists spend only a few nights in Santorini and continue their holiday by visiting other Cyclades islands. You can also decide to spend more time and relax in Santorini by taking a good week on the island.

How do we get to Santorini?

By Boat 🛥️: you can reach the island of Santorini through different routes. Boats depart from Athens or Heraklion in Crete.

By Plane ✈️ : during peak season, you can find low cost airlines like Easyjet flying direct to Santorini. Also you can save some money by doing a stop over in Athens and take the local Greek airline Aegean to arrive in Santorini.
