8. The Refreshment Rooms, Birkenhead

Just across the Mersey on the Wirral, this hidden gem is a favourite with local families thanks to its beautiful river views and pirate ship in the beer garden. If you’re taking a ferry trip over to this side of town, it’s a lovely spot for lunch on a sunny day.
