If you are on holiday in Malta, you might want to try restaurants outside your hotel and find suitable child friendly restaurants and cafés. In this guide, I have highlighted the best kids friendly restaurants in the island of Malta that have also great recent customers reviews overall.

Malta is not necessarily a destination where you will find a unique type of cuisine with plenty of classic dishes. However, you should definitely try Pastizzi which are pie filled with mushy peas, broad beans or ricotta. This is usually a snack you have with a drink between the main meals of the day. Another local dish – if you dare to try – is a rabbit stew Stuffat tal-Fenek cooked with carrots, garlic, potatoes, onions and tomato paste.

Overall, the island of Malta is full of European style restaurants where you can eat pizzas, pastas, seafood, fresh fish and so much more. If you look at the geographical position of Malta, you can predict the cuisine will be a melting pot of Italian, North African and Greek dishes.

If you are running out of options on where to eat with your children, you might read on and choose one of these child following child friendly restaurants in Malta. Bon Appétit!

1. Zeffie’s Bistro & Pizzeria

Without any particular order, let’s start with one of the most famous kids friendly restaurants in Malta: Zeffie’s which is appreciated by locals and by holidaymakers all year round. This busy and lively restaurant has great pizzas, pastas dishes, salads and plenty more.

Expect a restaurant to be full of families with kids running around due to the fact it has a great indoor playground. And yes, most tables have a view on what’s going with your children having a blast at the play area. We wish we could find more restaurants like Zeffie’s if you have young children to keep entertained whilst having breakfast, lunch or dinner.

2. Storie & Sapori

✓ Tried & Tested

Located in the heart of St Julian’s where the nightlife is happening, you can find this Italian restaurant with a long terrace along the busy street of St Augustine. This true Neapolitan restaurant has amazing large pizzas with quality ingredients on them. They also have great grill fish like sea bass or swordfish.

We have been twice at this restaurant without any reservation in July which is a busy month. You might wait a bit outside the restaurant but it is definitely worth it with a quick and efficient service too.

3. Beano’s

At first, I thought this restaurant was inspired by the famous British comic Beano but only the name is similar. However if you are searching for a great kids friendly restaurant in Malta where your children can have lots of fun, Beano’s is the place to be.

With over 100 covers inside and 120 covers outside, the restaurant is true favourite among families whether you prefer to seat inside or outside. Sometimes, the heat is just too much to bear and eating indoor with air condition on is well appreciated, trust me!

Beano’s restaurant has playgrounds inside and outside and serves pizzas, pasta, homemade burgers, salads and plenty more. I bet you and your kids will want to return for sure.

4. Zeri’s

✓ Tried & Tested

You won’t find any indoor play area in this restaurant but the quality of the food and the staff are really top class. Situated in a quiet part of St Julian’s at the top of the stairs leading to the beautiful Portomaso marina, Zeri’s is a great fish restaurant with a few tables outside and a large room inside with busy evenings in the Summer.

There are lots of fish and seafood dishes to choose from a la carte menu and we found the waiter very accommodating to find a suitable kids version of a pasta dish that my daughter like (Paccheri Lamb Ragu if you are wondering ).

I thing this restaurant is a perfect evening out with the family if you have well behaved children who can appreciate top quality food. We saw some families with babies too.

5. Blue Elephant

Here is another restaurant to try on the Portomaso marina which is part of the Hilton hotel. Blue Elephant has been one of the most exciting Thai restaurant themed restaurant that opened in different cities around the world in the past. However a lot have closed down such as Paris or London. So I was very surprised to see Blue Elephant in St Julian’s.

If you know the concept, expect a restaurant with an amazing decoration full of water features, plants, flowers with even a terrace looking over the marina. The venue offers traditional Thai food with different set menus including vegetarian.

Looking for a good value for money restaurant where children can have a great time in Malta? Luzzu restaurant ticks a lot of boxes to please families and their children. The venue has indeed a great indoor playground inside the restaurant so parents can have their meal whilst kids are having fun and maybe make new friends.

For food, you will have a choice of Maltese cuisine but also Italian dishes such as Linguini with Octopus. There are also grill options including the famous rabbit stew. For your little ones, there is an easy children menu with burger, pasta and chicken. What more can you ask for a perfect child friendly restaurant in the beautiful island of Malta.

7. Palio’s Trattoria

✓ Tried & Tested

Palio’s Trattoria restaurant is part of the Westin Dragonara, one of the few 5* hotels in the island of Malta. The restaurant serves delicious pizzas as well as salads, grilled fish or meat. In the Summer, you have an extensive terrace where you can sit on two levels.

The best option is to have a table a the lower level with an incredible view over the sea. You can also view the natural sea pool of the hotel too with plenty of fishes that are waiting to be fed.

As a guest of this hotel, we had dinner twice and even though it was super busy, we’ve always found a table without reservation. However if you are not a guest, best is to book in advance and avoid the rush hour in the summer between 7 and 8pm.

8. La Nave Bistro at Malta National Aquarium

Are you looking for a kids friendly restaurant with a view in Malta? La Nave Bistro is a lovely place overlooking St Paul’s Bay, Camino and Gozo. The restaurant is in the same location as the Malta National Aquarium. So perfect for lunch before or after a visit at the aquarium.

It is also quite praised with families for their breakfast if you are bored of your daily routine at your hotel. The room looks like a bit of canteen hence why it is easy going with children too.

9. Coogie’s

✓ Tried & Tested

One of the most beautiful places to visit in Malta is Mdina and we couldn’t resist to stop by the tea terrace at Coogie’s for a huge ice cream with an incredible panoramic view. Yes it felt a bit touristy because it is located right in the middle of the medieval fortified town. However, we felt the service was very efficient and food looks delicious looking at other tables.

It is recommended to book for dinner, especially in the Summer as it can be quite busy and lots of tables are booked out outdoor. This restaurant doesn’t have a playground or soft play area but it is definitely worth to check it out for a nice meal with the family. No wonder why this restaurant has received thousands positive reviews from locals and holidaymakers.

10. Rampila

✓ Tried & Tested

I wouldn’t consider going to Rampila with young children so let’s be clear on this. However, if you are looking for an evening out with well behaved children to appreciate Michelin star food on the plate, Rampila is one of the best choices in the old town of Valleta.

We booked a table in the evening and it was already full of couples and family large tables. Our kids were 9 and 12 years old at the time and we didn’t feel they were not welcome. In fact my daughter asked a mini version of the Pork Cheek Ragu pasta dish.

The food was exquisite with a great service throughout the evening. It felt a bit posh but not too much. It is quite a small terrace restaurant so you feel privileged to have a moment at this place in in Valleta. Much recommended.

The restaurant can quite tricky to find so make sure to check out this video on how to find it.
