1. Pembroke Castle

Will the kids be excited when you tell them you are spending the day at a huge medieval castle complete with dungeon tower, an underground cave and a maze of tunnels and battlements to explore? You bet they will! Pembrokeshire Castle is one of Wales’ most impressive, and is surrounded by a serene millpond that’s perfect to stroll around, if the weather brightens up. There are loads of family events during the holidays, such as Knight School, Dragon Day and a Christmas Market.

2. Phoenix Bowl and Pirate Pete’s Indoor Play

Bowling is a great indoor family activity, and Phoenix Bowl has soft play too so it’s perfect if you have a range of ages to entertain. Let the little ones run off some steam on Pirate Pete’s climbing frames and ball pit, then enjoy a family game of bowling, before dinner at the welcoming bar and restaurant.

3. Blue Lagoon Water Park

Featured in our Best Indoor Waterparks in the UK article, this waterpark located within Bluestone National Park Resort, has an impressive wave pool and four flumes. All surrounded by 500 acres of unspoilt countryside. ‘Nippers Cove’ is a dedicated area for little ones under 5 years old, where they can splash about in confidence away from the main pool.

If you need a break from all the excitement, float along down the lazy river to the heated outdoor bubble pool.

The waterpark is free to enter if you are staying at the resort, so why not make a weekend of it and explore the beautiful Welsh coast?

4. Folly Farm

Folly Farm adventure park and zoo has lots to keep the kids entertained in all weathers, aside from the hundreds of animals who live on site. There are vintage fairground rides and an extensive indoor play area. Your kids will also discover a barn where you can see and handle a wide range of furry friends, from lambs to rabbits. There’s even a life size model of a cow which you can practise milking – a ‘must try’ for any eager young farmers or vets!

5. The Creative Cafe

Finally, This ‘paint your own pottery’ cafe has three different locations in Pembrokeshire to get your hands dirty, and keep the kids entertained on a rainy day.  Pick from the wide array of ceramics – plates, mugs ornaments and more, then adorn it in all the colours of the rainbow! You could also have a go at making personalised handprints of all your family as a lovely souvenir.

6. Beach Day

There are 52 beaches in Pembrokeshire, a surfer’s paradise where wild Atlantic waves crash onto steep, dramatic cliffs. Some of the famous surfer beaches like Freshwater West have very strong currents though, and are not suitable for children’s swimming. However there are plenty of others to choose to visit with the family.

Broadhaven is a wide sandy bay backed by dunes that lead from The National Trust owned Bosherston Lakes. This huge beach never seems crowded, it’s a great choice for days out in Pembrokeshire to visit all year round.

Newport sands offers a mile of sand flanked by cliffs on both sides, making it a sheltered spot that’s perfect for families. There are plenty of facilities such as a cafe, lifeguards during the summer and two car parks.

7. Walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is certainly one of the most impressive National Trails in Britain. Attracting walkers and families from all over the world. It covers indeed 186 miles of breathtaking scenery from St Dogmaels to Amroth, taking in steep limestone cliffs, volcanic headlands, stunning beaches and estuaries. See what seabirds and wild flowers you can spot along the way too. In addition, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path’s website has a “gentle walks” section which details routes that are stile free – perfect if you’re travelling with a buggy.

8. Manor Wildlife Park

Wales’ only “walk through” safari, Manor Park is home to an amazing range of animals, from endangered Sumatran tigers to friendly tortoise. Kids will love the chance to hand feed wallabies, cuddle giant rabbits and encounter swinging gibbons and roaming rhinos Daily activities include bug handling, pig walks and tiger talks.

Winner of “Best Visitor Attraction” at the Pembrokeshire 2018 Tourism Awards, Carew Castle is one of the most magnificent in Wales, with a history spanning over 2000 years. Inside the castle there are mysterious passages and towers for the kids to explore, while outside there’s a lovely circular walk around the beautiful grounds and 18th century tidal mill.

There are lots of children’s activities during the school holidays too, such as dressing up and Easter egg hunts. Visitors can buy a family season ticket for £40 which allows entry to Carew Castle and Castell Henllys Iron Age Village. (Valid for one year from date of purchase.)

10. Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort

Travel back in time and experience life in the Iron Age at this fantastic reconstructed village. A really interesting and unique family attraction set within 30 acres of woodland and meadows, you’ll find expertly re-created Iron Age roundhouses which villagers would have lived in, built exactly where they would have stood 2000 years ago. Explore the sculpture trails depicting myths and legends, spot wildlife such as otters, swallows and bats, and gets hands on at the interactive exhibits in the visitor centre.

11. Picton Castle & Gardens

Picton Castle is a great choice for families looking for a lovely day out with the kids in Pembrokeshire. There is a wide variety of activities for everyone such as The Welsh Owl Garden where you can be close to different preys flying over your head. 12. Oakwood Theme Park

Claimed to be the biggest Wales theme park, Oakwood is a fun place to be with the family if you are visiting Pembrokeshire. You can expect different fun rides, rollercoasters, arcades and more. Beware that some rides may not be suitable for every child depending of their age and height. There is also a large indoor play area called Hook House of Havoc with plenty of fun things to do on rainy day.

13. Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm

If your little ones are into bugs and want to see a large collection of them, you can’t go wrong by visiting Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm. This attraction is very interactive too since you will hold big cockroaches and discover a great exhibits of different insects. For small children aged 3+, there is an indoor barn play area to let you children go wild. Last but not least, we can’t recommend enough to have lunch at Grub Kitchen that serves fresh meals too with vegetarian options.

14. The Dinosaur Park Tenby

If you have children aged between 3 and 12, surely dinosaurs are something of interest to them, especially with the series of Jurassic Park movies we have seen in the past three decades. The dinosaur park is a fantastic place to visit with the family if you are exploring Pembrokeshire region. You will find numerous rides, a guided safari walk that will take you through different dinosaurs species. You can even find places designated for picnics if you are visiting on a sunny day. A great day out for the family for sure.

15. Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre

You might have a day when the weather is not so great and still need to keep your children active. So why not heading to Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre and learn about 2 centuries of maritime, military and local history. The museum is manned by volunteers who will be happy to answer any questions you may have during your visit. And don’t forget to try the Sunderland flight simulator.
