Time flies and yes the next February Half Term Holiday is only 3 weeks ago. If you love skiing I bet you’ve already had your holiday booked for the whole family as usually these holidays need to be secured months in advance. However for us, February Half Term Holiday is always a gamble with no plan whatsoever. This year, February half term starts on Friday 11th February in the afternoon and finishes on Sunday 20th February. So if you like us, you may wonder where should we go this year in February Half Term?

We have researched different destinations within the UK but also in Europe to see whether we could spend a nice week away from home.  Or maybe a relaxed and long weekend breakaway without breaking the bank. Let’s look at the different options we found here.

1. A long weekend in Porto

Lisbon or the Algarve have long been favorite destinations among families in the past few years. Porto is equally a great city break destination where you can spend a long weekend visiting the city and its surroundings. The good news is that there are some direct flights from London Gatwick with EasyJet at a very attractive price. For instance, you can depart on Saturday 12th February and come back on Tuesday 15th February for less than £500 for 2 Adults and 2 Children. In terms of kids friendly hotels and apartments in Porto, we found a great family room at BessaHotel Baixa for £549 for 3 nights with breakfast included or if you’d rather stay in a self catering apartment, there are plenty of options such as Passos Manuel by Innapartments where you sleep in a 2-Bedroom Apartment for £213 for 3 nights as well.

2. Introduction to skiing in Aviemore, Scotland

If your children keep pestering you about going to Ski this Winter (just like my son did a week ago), Aviemore in Scotland might be good introductory destination to hit the slops without the hassle of expensive flights to the Alps. A fun way to go Aviemore in Scotland is to take the Caledonian sleeper night train from London Euston. Unfortunately, there are no cabins available anymore for February Half Term. However you can still book a flight from London Gatwick to Inverness on Saturday 12th February in the evening and back on Thursday 17th February for less than £600 for 2 Adults and 2 Children. If you are looking for places to stay in Aviemore, a good family friendly hotel could be the Coylumbridge Hotel which has family rooms with great facilities such as swimming pool, sauna, climbing wall and more. You can find a room for 5 nights for £817 with English breakfast included. Or you can stay in this cosy 2-Bedroom apartment very well located in the centre of Aviemore.

3. A week in Tenerife

With the past 2 years of turmoil due to Covid restrictions, it is time to go back to the cherished island of Tenerife. One of the most family friendly destinations for February half term holidays. Who wouldn’t love to enjoy a holiday with a temperature of around 25°C in February? And not too far from the UK with great resorts hotels to welcome your little tribe. EasyJet has a direct flight from Gatwick to Tenerife South departing Sunday 13th February and returning on Sunday 20th February (late flight though) for £906 for 2 Adults and 2 Children. If you enjoy staying in a big resort hotel, we highly recommend the Hard Rock Tenerife who has a great kids club and nursery but also plenty of restaurants options too. For instance, a 7 nights in a Studio Suite Silver for 2 Adults and 2 Children starts at £1,808 with breakfast included.

You can find other kids friendly hotel rooms and self catering accommodations too.

4. A long weekend in Brighton

Brighton needs no introduction. So if you can’t afford to take a week off work, maybe a long weekend in Brighton with the kids would be ideal. We would suggest to stay in this family room at the Selina Brighton where your kids will be thrilled to sleep in the bunk beds. A 2 nights stay on the weekend of the 18th February starts at £480. If you are looking for self catering options, you can check out other kids friendly hotels and apartments in Brighton.

5. A week in Dartmoor, Devon

If you fancy a staycation in pure nature, Dartmoor region is such a treat for the eyes and your body even with young kids. Make sure you have multiple clothes layers and be ready to hike the Dartmoor National Park.  Or maybe go for a pony ride to discover this unique place of nature. There are great kids friendly hotels and homes in Devon but you can’t go wrong by choosing this lovely self catering 2-bedroom house at Blackadon Farm for your stay in Dartmoor which can be let for £779 for the week of the 12th of February.  Another option is to go luxurious by staying in this family room at Bovey Castle for £1,562 for 3 nights.
