You’re bound to have noticed that we’re enjoying more and more sunny days, the birds are singing and Easter eggs are already starting to line the shelves of your local supermarket. There’s no doubt about it, Spring is just around the corner, hurrah! So here at BabyBreaks we have been wondering what activities you can do with your kids to celebrate the arrival of this joyful season.

Check out our list of Kids Spring Activities below for the ultimate Spring-spiration.

1. Grow Your Own

Planting some seeds to watch them grow is a joyful way to celebrate spring. Kids will love getting their hands dirty planting, then watering them each day. We bet they will be delighted when they start to sprout little green shoots. Seeds are really cheap too,  and you can often pick them up in supermarkets with your weekly shop.  You don’t need a garden either – you could grow flowers, herbs, tomatoes or chillies, all in a small pot on your windowsill.

2. Visit a Lambing Farm

Visit a local farm during lambing season where you will get the chance to see the tiny newborns springing about, and often the opportunity to feed them milk from a bottle – very cute! Many farms may also let children handle other baby animals like rabbits, which they will love. There’s often a tasty farm cafe for lunch afterwards, so it makes a great day out. And you needn’t live in the countryside to make the most of this activity -there are lots of urban city farms around the UK to choose from. Definitely one of our favourite kids spring activities.

3. Eat Seasonally

Eating seasonally is a great life lesson to teach your children, and fruit and veg always taste so much better this way too. So make a point to visit your local farmers market- the kids will love all the colours and hustle and bustle. Buy the best quality you can, then dust off those cookbooks and get creative in the kitchen. For example, rhubarb is a delicious spring fruit, so why not make an easy rhubarb crumble together? We love this Tom Kerridge recipe from BBC Good Food.

4. Attend a Spring Event

The National Trust has guided woodland walks, spring flower festivals, and numerous other events at many of its historic sites this spring. Check out their website and enter your postcode for events happening near you.

5. Try Something New

Spring is a great time to start a new hobby or activity – maybe your kids want to try a new after school club? Or simply add a new daily family ritual into your routine. Instead of scurrying home after the school run, take a walk in the park or teach them to ride their new bike that’s been gathering dust in the garage since Christmas.

In addition, your old winter rituals of movie night Saturdays could be replaced by something active and outdoors. Challenge yourself too- try indoor climbing or rollerskating, we bet you will have as much fun as the kids!

6. Plan a Mini Break

What better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons than planning a trip to see nature in all it’s glory? Some of our favourite UK destinations to watch Spring bloom include The Lake District, The Scottish Highlands and Cornwall. You’ll avoid the crowds of summer, and if you’re lucky enough not to be tied to school holidays, you’ll avoid inflated prices too. Many hotels and holiday cottages offer great discounts in this shoulder season, so make sure you check their website for offers. Head over to our Sleep pages for inspiration on family friendly hotels.

7. Decorate Eggs

This classic Spring activity is great for crafty kids. Simply hard boil your eggs for 15 minutes, and allow to fully cool, before using sponges, glitter, stickers and metallic paints to create your masterpiece!

BabyBreaks Tip: Use acrylic paint as this adheres best to the eggs

8. Have a Picnic, Come Rain or Shine

All kids love a picnic, and us adults do too. So celebrate the warmer weather by simply eating your lunch in the garden or in the local park. Little kids will love the novelty of this, and they could even bring their teddy bears along. And if the weather is wet, just set the picnic up on your living room floor, with blankets, cushions and a picnic basket.

9. Treasure Hunt

A treasure hunt is a lovely idea to entertain little ones, and it doesn’t have to be as elaborate as drawing your own map and writing clues (who has time for that?!). Simply go on a walk see if they can find daffodils, bluebells, a snail… oh and maybe a chocolate coin!

10. Spring Clean

Ok so cleaning might not sound like the most appealing of kids Spring activities, but if you get toddlers involved it can be a fun activity to fill their day. And bonus, you get some chores done too!  My kid loves to follow along with his toy hoover, and imitate me with his own cloth as I dust or wipe down the kitchen cabinets. This could also be a good time to pack away their winter clothes, or donate some to charity.
