If you’re craving some vitamin D but summer seems a long way off, the Easter holidays could be the perfect time for your family to get away and enjoy a dose of sunshine. As Easter falls late this year, you don’t need to travel far so get some decent high temperatures. Take a look at our top five family holidays for Easter below.  All of them are just four hours flight or under from the UK.

1. The Algarve

The Algarve has long been popular with families, thanks to its dramatic coastal scenery, mild temperatures and wealth of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, golf and watersports .

The Western Algarve boasts some of the best weather in Portugal, visitors can expect temperatures upwards of 22 degrees from March onwards.

Popular family friendly resorts Praia da Rocha, Portimão and Lagos are lively in Easter without being overcrowded, so you can enjoy some quality time and  relaxation with your family.

2. Ibiza

The Balearic island famous for its party-vibe in Summer, is actually a fantastic island for families in the Spring time.  It’s sunny and warm on the southern beaches, and the picturesque villages can be admired in all their glory, without the thronging crowds .

Swerve San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa and head to Santa Eulalia instead, where you’ll find soft sandy beaches, bustling local markets and cheerful cafes.

3. Sicily

Spring is the perfect time to visit the fiery island of Sicily, when temperatures of 22˚C are just right for sightseeing in its historic cities like Palermo, or trekking to the base of mighty Mount Etna. The beaches in family friendly Cefalu are pleasant and inviting in the spring time.

Sicilians take Easter very seriously, so if you’re there over Easter weekend, be sure to catch some of the spectacular parades and feast on lamb and cassata (a rich sponge cake). Also, the Flower Festival in Noto (Infiorata di Noto) in May, is one of the most colourful festivals in the world, and a must see if you’re in the area.

4. Provence

The French Riviera has a glamorous reputation which attracts hoards of celebrity tourists each summer. But the visit in the Spring with your family, and you can enjoy this beautiful part of France in its true guise.

The old town of Nice, perfumeries of Grasse and stunning views from medieval Vence are as charming as a postcard. Moreover, the weather is mild enough to paddle in the sea, or cycle along the coast from Cannes to Vieux.

5. Crete

Crete, the largest of the Greek islands has one of the earliest springs in the Mediterranean. So you’re pretty much guaranteed some sunshine here.

There’s a huge amount of history to explore, like ancient Knossos and Spinalonga island. Expect plenty of fun for active families such as hiking in Samira Gorge for example.

Head to Elounda for beautiful luxury hotels or pretty Rethymnon for history and charm.
