October Half Term 2019 is nearly upon us, so you’re probably wondering how to entertain the kids all week. To save you some time, here at BabyBreaks we have shortlisted 5 fantastic activities in London for families. There are some great outdoors activities to do if we’re lucky with the weather. But also, some indoor options if it’s looking cloudy or wet. They don’t all cost the earth either -there are lots of free activities in the capital, if you know where to look. 1. Carve a Pumpkin
Carving a pumpkin is a rite of passage for most kids, and what better place to do it than in the beautiful surrounds of a National Trust owned park? Morden Hall Park feels a world away from the busy city, with its meandering riverside paths and roaming deer. This October Half Term, kids can pick up a pumpkin from the Stableyard, (£4) before getting creative with carving under the expert eye of helpful staff. Includes an LED candle for that all important ghoulish flicker. You’ll have no mess to clean up, and all proceeds go towards the upkeep of the park.
2. Ice Skating
The Natural History Museum’s skating rink opens on 19th October, offering the perfect half term activity for families. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Waterhouse building, this is one of the capital’s prettiest ice rinks. The Saturday morning Penguin Skate Clubs are perfect for helping children gain confidence. And, there are also toddler sessions in weekdays which include a free hot drink.
3. FREE Discovery Day at Hyde Park
On Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th Oct 2019, families can drop in between 11am and 3pm for a host of free, Halloween themed activities. These include a nature trail, a “touchy feely” box in the Wicthes Den, a spooky storytime and the chance to make your own potion using herbs and plants from the garden.

4. Wonderlab at The Science Museum
This fantastic temporary exhibition at the Science Museum is guaranteed to fuel their imagination and love for science. There are over 50 exhibits spread across seven zones, including plenty of hands on activities. Take part in live experiments at The Chemistry Bar, whizz down giant slides in the Forces Zone and see lightening strike in the Electricity Zone. The exhibition is open daily. A limited number of tickets can be to pre-booked during the school holidays. Additional tickets are released on site each day.
5. FREE Fairy Tale Trail at the Southbank Centre
This free interactive adventure at the Southbank Centre will delight little ones in October Half Term 2019. Pick up an activity trail pack and discover the secrets of well-known fairy tales through puzzles, drawing and games. There’s a secret reward at the end for those who successfully complete the trail…
