Wengen has been popular with British families for decades, thanks to its wide choice of nursery slopes, two kindergartens and extra activities like ice skating and a cinema.

The resort can only be reached by a cog railway from Lauterbrunnen, and when you finally arrive the mountain views will take your breath away. The dramatic Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains rise above you and the Aletsch glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, glistens below.

4. Arinsal, Andorra

Lively and welcoming, high altitude Arinsal offers some of the best value, snow-sure skiing in Europe. It is much cheaper than Alps, thanks to Andorra’s tax-free status, so this is a great choice for families skiing on a budget. Part of the country’s large Vallnord ski region, Arinsal is renowned for its excellent ski-schools, beginners’ slopes and childcare facilities.
