The Ultimate Family Foodie Guide: 6 Kids-Friendly Restaurants in Porto You’ll Love

Finding great places to eat in Porto is easy—this city is full of flavours. But when you’ve got kids in tow, the search can get a little trickier. You want somewhere with good food and a relaxed vibe where kids are welcome. Whether you’re traveling with a picky eater, a toddler with energy to burn, or a teen with a growing appetite, these 8 spots tick all the boxes for a fun, family-friendly meal out. Let’s dig in—your next food adventure starts here!

Our experience: We stayed in Porto with our family during Easter holiday so we had tried most of these restaurants below. Usually, we got some recommendations from the paper guide we had in our rental flat but we also took our chances by wandering the streets of Porto. Casa Dias was for instance pure luck as we were planning to eat in another restaurant next door.

1. Casa Dias

Casa Dias feels like eating at a Portuguese grandmother’s house—if she also happened to have a killer view over the Douro River. This cozy spot is perfect for families looking for generous portions and traditional Portuguese flavours that even fussy eaters can get behind (think grilled meats, fries, and rice on the side). The staff here are warm and patient, and they make kids feel right at home. Plus, the riverside setting gives little ones space to stretch their legs after a meal. Simple, comforting food + friendly service = a total win for family dinners. My recommendation is to go when the restaurant opens at 7pm for dinner.

If your kids are up for trying something a little different, Subenshi is the sushi spot that makes it easy. Located in a cool, relaxed space in downtown Porto, this place has a menu that caters to adventurous and cautious eaters alike. While adults can go all-in on the sushi and sashimi, there are options like chicken yakitori and crispy tempura that usually go down well with younger diners. They also have high chairs and a laid-back atmosphere, so families are always welcome. Bonus points for the stylish décor that makes you feel like you’re out for a grown-up meal—even with kids in tow.

3. Novo Mundo

Novo Mundo is one of those classic local restaurants where the portions are huge, the prices are unbeatable, and service is fast and straight to the point. It’s casual and lively, making it a perfect choice for a no-pressure family lunch or dinner. The menu is very simple and feels eating at home. Don’t expect fancy dishes but classic food like grilled fish or lamb cutlets with potatoes. The menu is priced for less than 15€. I recommend to come early on weekends to avoid disappointment.

4. CA Downtown

CA Downtown is a trendy yet super welcoming spot right in the heart of Porto. The menu leans toward brunchy goodness—think pancakes, eggs, smoothies, and colourful bowls—which is ideal if you’re dealing with early risers or mid-day hunger strikes. It’s got a bright, open space with lots of natural light and chill vibes, which makes it easier for kids to feel comfortable and relaxed. They even offer little treats or surprises for children sometimes, which keeps them happy while you enjoy your coffee in peace. A solid spot for a relaxed meal with the whole gang.

There’s something comforting about sitting down to a warm, filling meal that makes everyone happy, and this place delivers. Located in Porto’s Rua de Ceuta, Bira dos Namorados is a vibrant and welcoming spot that brings a taste of Minho tradition to the city. The restaurant’s décor is a playful homage to Portuguese culture with lots of vibrant colours (especially with the chairs). Families will appreciate the diverse menu, offering artisanal burgers and ‘pregos’ with creative names inspired by local dances and instruments, accompanied by a mix of regular and sweet potato fries and homemade sauces.
